Värnamo – an area where growth and humanity prevail

In Värnamo we often employ lesser means to add zest to our day-to-day lives. Not ones for sweeping manifestations, we prefer more reserved gestures and forms of expression and this is something we value strongly. This is perhaps also the reason for our success. It could be as simple as a walk in the forest, giving a neighbour a helping hand or always finding a parking space.

We help each other
It could also have something to do with the way in which many company owners run their businesses. By tradition we help each other, even in industry. We derive pleasure from seeing a fellow businessman finalise a deal or a new company being set up around the corner. A pleasure shared is a pleasure doubled. And as we said before, it is seldom with the aid of sweeping manifestations. A timely word of advice or a helping hand when needed. Such small gestures could be the difference between success and failure.

The world is changing - and so are we
The entrepreneurial spirit in the municipality is widely known and firmly established. At the same time the preservation of traditions must be coupled with the need to move ahead. This is achieved in two ways: through a distinct spirit of enterprise and a strong design tradition, both of which are derived from long experience. Within the municipal borders there is deep-rooted knowledge and skills in many areas, including furniture design. The legendary designer Bruno Mathsson was a native of Värnamo, as were many of his contemporaries and successors. In the municipality there is an almost unique culture with regard to new business ideas and starting new companies. Added to this are the capacity to co-operate and a willingness to help a colleague - or even a competitor. Things like this help us to adapt to the changes in the world around us and enable us to look to the future together.

Vandalorum - an excellent example
The development of the region´s design tradition is clearly exemplified by the plan to create the Vandalorum museum. Vandalorum will act as an interface between the past and the future in art, design, education and the business world although perhaps with the future as the primary focus. The museum will be located at the E4/R27 intersection and the driving force behind the concept is the world-famous Italian architect Renzo Piano.

Trade and service
The Värnamo region has for a long time been a trade and service centre in the south-western part of the county of Jönköping and this is still very much the case. The growing range of retail outlets and services attracts people from all over the region to shop, meet or simply to relax. The distance from the car park to the store is never that far. Or you could quite simply stroll around the town centre and discover the town´s pleasant shops and eating places at your own pace.

A natural focus
There are also logistical reasons why we consider ourselves to be something of a focal point in southern Sweden. The E4 highway passes Värnamo and is crossed by the R27 highway just outside the town centre. The coast-to-coast rail link between Kalmar in the east and Gothenburg in the west has the station in Värnamo as an obvious hub. The rail link between Jönköping and Växjö, with new, modern carriages, also passes through Värnamo and further stations are planned along the route. The Halmstad-Nässjö line also runs through Värnamo. Close proximity to airports and a well-developed bus network throughout the region complement the picture of the Municipality of Värnamo as a natural meeting point in southern Sweden. The obvious conclusion is that Värnamo is a highly accessible place for visitors. For those who live and work in the municipality it is extremely easy to reach the coasts and cities when the need arises.

You can live anywhere You wish
Good communications and short commuting distances make it just as easy to live in the country as in a town. A farm with a view over lakes and fields, a house in a small village or an apartment in the heart of Värnamo. Only you know what you and your family want.

And not forgetting those little things
As we said before, it is not always the big things in life that are important. We often appreciate the small things, whether it be contact between people or personal well-being. We feel that we have this in the Municipality of Värnamo. It could be said that we believe in the good life regardless of who we are and what we do.
